FTSE Licenses DBSAM To Create ETF On Straits Times Index
Global index provider FTSE Group (FTSE), has licensed the Straits Times Index (STI) to DBS Asset Management (DBSAM) to be used as the basis of an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) which lists on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) today. This is the third time the STI has been licensed as the underlying index for a Singapore focused ETF since it was revamped in January 2008 in partnership with Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and SGX. Number Of ETFs Listed On Borsa Italiana Exceeds 300 - In 2008 Borsa Italiana Held The First Place Among European Exchanges For Electronic Trading In ETFs
Borsa Italiana reached a new milestone this month as the number of ETFs on the market exceeded 300 for the first time. The listing of seven new Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) on Monday 16 February took the number of ETFs on Borsa Italiana’s ETFplus market to over 300, in addition to 47 Exchange Traded Commodities (ETCs).

NYSE Euronext, Shanghai Stock Exchange Expand Memorandum Of Understanding - Exchanges Sign Agreement To Jointly Develop Indexes And ETFs Business In China
NYSE Euronext (NYX) and the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand their current relationship by establishing a partnership for the joint development of Indexes and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) in China, the US and globally. The MOU signed today builds on the existing cooperation agreement between the former New York Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange from October 2003.

Exchanges Losing Out To European Trading Venues - New Trading Venues Cost Less Than A Fifth Of The Traditional Exchanges According To The Latest Research From TowerGroup
Multilateral trading facilities (MTFs) are considerably cheaper than traditional exchanges, according to the latest analysis from TowerGroup. For example, in a typical high- or low-volume trading scenario, Chi-X Europe charged a fifth of what the London Stock Exchange (LSE) charged for the same volume of trades and a tenth of the charges levied by Deutsche Börse and NYSE Euronext.

NYSE Liffe Organizational Changes, Effective May 1, 2009 - Hugh Freedberg To Succeed Andre Villeneuve As Chairman - Garry Jones To Become Head Of Global Derivatives
NYSE Euronext (NYX), today announced that Hugh Freedberg will succeed Andre Villeneuve as Chairman1 of NYSE Liffe, the company’s global derivatives business, and Garry Jones, currently Executive Director of Business Development and Strategy of NYSE Liffe, will assume Mr. Freedberg’s role as Group Executive Vice President & Head of Global Derivatives, effective May 1, 2009. Mr. Villeneuve is to retire as Chairman following six years of service, representing two three-year terms.

Guotai Asset Management Signs Exclusive Agreement For NASDAQ-100 Index(r) In China - Guotai Asset Management Will License The NASDAQ-100 Index(r) And Launch An Exchange-Listed Product For Domestic Investors
Guotai Asset Management and The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:NDAQ) announced today that Guotai has executed an exclusive licensing agreement with NASDAQ OMX to use the NASDAQ-100 Index in the development of an exchange traded product in China. The announcement comes as demand for indexed overseas products in China is rapidly developing. Subject to regulatory approval, this NASDAQ-100 Index-linked product will be the first foreign index-linked financial product traded in China.
