Open interest fell to 21.5 million lots, reflecting the close of trading in September contracts for many products.
Equity and index derivatives accounted for 18.9 million contracts or a daily average of 899,215, 61% more than in August. CAC40 index futures rose 40% on August, with over 80,000 lots changing hands on average each day. The contract price hit a record high of 6,930 on September 4.
In interest-rate derivatives, nearly 3 million Euro-notional futures were traded during the month, with the daily average up 39% from 101,897 in August to 141,707. Over 36 million contracts were traded in the first nine months of the year, the second best performance since it was launched in 1986.
In commodities, uncertainties over the quality of 2000 harvests triggered a decline in trading in wheat and rapeseed contracts.
