TMX Group Inc. today announced February 2011 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges – Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange (MX) and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Highlights
Trading volume on Toronto Stock Exchange was 30% higher in February 2011 compared to February 2010. Volume in February 2011 was down slightly from January 2011 largely due to the smaller number of trading days in the month. On a year-to-date basis, volume was up significantly in 2011, with a 23% increase over the first two months of 2010.
TSX Venture Exchange also experienced increased trading volume in February 2011. In February 2011, volume was up 127% compared to February 2010 and almost 8% compared to last month. Transactions increased 81% compared to February 2010 and 5% compared to January 2011.
Montréal Exchange set a new monthly volume trading record for the month of February 2011. 4,592,757 contracts were traded during the month, which surpassed the previous record of 4,592,430 contracts set in May 2007. During February 2011, open interest was up 26% compared to February 2010.
On a year-to-date basis, trading and clearing volume on NGX was up 20% compared to February 2010. Volume in February 2011 was down compared to the previous month.
