Turnover
Total number of trading days in November 2009 amounted to 20 days with a total value traded of US$ 20,260.27 million (LE 110,823.67 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 6,143.05 million (LE 33,602.48 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 92.74%, 7.26% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 14,117.22 million (LE 77,221.19 million), which represents 70% of total value traded for the month. Worth mentioning that this month has witnessed the execution of a deal on Lafarge Building Materials Holding on the OTC market, with a total volume of 1.3 million shares worth US$ 13 billion (LE 71 billion).
This is in comparison to October 2009, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 4,843 million (LE 26,490 million), of which shares represented 88.55 %, bonds 11.45 % and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 481 million (LE 2,632 million) i.e. 9% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 5,324 million (LE 29,121 million).
Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 1,533.62 million securities.
During November 2009, 849,243 transactions were concluded with an average of 42,462 trades per day, as opposed to 1,173,342 transactions and an average of 58,667 trades per day in October 2009.
Indices
EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed a 15.76% decrease in November 2009 to reach 5868.47 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 39.53%.
Likewise, EGX 70 price index witnessed a 17.53% decrease in November 2009 to reach 658.74 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 36.06%.
Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a 16.48% decrease in November 2009 to reach 1,052.36 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 38.03%.
Meanwhile, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 14.84% decrease in November, to close at 1,233.06 points on 30/11/2009, and a 39.31% increase on a YoY basis.
Price Movements of Selected Shares

During the month of November, the top five gainers, on the official EGX market, were (in descending order of price change) Suez Cement (+36%), Ahli United Bank-Egypt (+18%), Cairo Medical Tower Laboratory (Alborg Laboratory) (+13%), Alexandria Cement (+12%) and Blom Bank Egypt (+11%).
The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Suez Canal Automotive Repair and Maintenance (-62%), Egyptian Real Estate (-57%), National Housing for Professional Syndicates (-53%), El Kahera El Watania Investment (-46%), Egyptian Contracting (Mokhtar Ibrahim) (-42%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 88.9 billion (LE 486.4 billion) as of end of November 2009 compared to US$ 100.4 billion (LE 549.1 billion) in October 2009, representing a decrease of 11%.
The bond capitalization recorded US$ 561 million (LE 3.1 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 21 billion (LE 117 billion) for government bonds at the end of November 2009 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).
Foreign Participation
In November 2009, foreign investors participated with 12.15% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 36 million (LE 198 million).
