ROFEX ended the year with a significant increase in agricultural futures and options trading volume.
During 2010, a total of 7,080,350 tonnes were traded, up 22 per cent from 2009, when 5,731,925 tonnes were traded, and up 4 per cent from the previous historical record of 6,805,700 tonnes reached in 2007. These analyses confirm the continuous growth that agricultural futures have experienced in ROFEX.
As regards monthly activity, April became the best month of 2010 and of the Market’s history, with more than 1 million tonnes traded. With this mark, the October 2009 historical record of 812,375 tonnes traded in ROFEX`s Agricultural Derivatives Division, was surpassed. Likewise, during that period, daily volume reached a record of 3,643 traded contracts. Besides, the first place in the open interest ranking was reached on April 24 trading session, with 34,501 contracts.
The last month of 2010 registered a trading level of 603,325 tonnes, up 57 per cent from December 2009 trading volume and up 7 per cent from the previous month. On December 13, the month’s maximum daily tonnage was reached, with 47,980 tonnes traded.
In this context, on Monday, January 3 trading session, the positions of Soybean Index and Delivery with expiration in May 2011 reached their maximum values since listed, with u$s 358 and u$s 360, respectively. Also, the position next to expire of Soybean for Crushing (SOF January 2011) reached it maximum value with u$s 375.
