The NYSE Group, Inc. today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of January 14, 2011.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to 12,624,792,572 shares from 12,523,260,782 (revised) shares on December 31, 2010. This was an increase of 101,531,790 shares. The short interest on January 14 was equal to 3.30 percent of the total shares outstanding. The short interest in warrants as of January 14 amounted to 12,880,958 warrants, compared to 14,358,276 warrants the previous period. As of the settlement date, there were 4266 stocks and 42 warrants available for trading. Of these, 3,618 issues had either a short position of at least 5,000 shares or a change of 2,000 shares since the last monthly report.
