London Metal Exchange Launches Silver Futures and Silver Traded Options

Launched on 10 May 1999 the LME silver contract, commenced trading futures for three months and beyond. With the first tradeable month for options being September 1999. Cash futures trading will comence on 6 August 1999.
Silver is not only a metal of high intrinsic value, but an industrial metal that is often found in production alongside the key base metals; copper, zinc and lead.
The new LME futures and options contracts have been designed in conjunction with industry professionals across the world to provide the optimum combination of physical
contract and risk management mechanism for the silver industry today.
As a physical contract, LME silver is well suited for industrial consumers and producers. It offers the tightest tolerances ever seen in the marketplace, a network of international delivery points and a choice of delivery shapes that for the first time acknowledges the increasing trend of granule usage throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
As a risk management mechanism, LME silver offers transparency with the security of clearing, stability through regulation, and a 24 hour global trading structure that are the hallmarks of the world's leading base metal exchange.
Trading times are: First Session: 1st Ring 11.40 - 11.45; 2nd Ring (Official) 13.05 - 13.10; Kerb Trading 13.15 - 13.30. Second Session: 1st Ring 15.15 - 15.20; 2nd Ring 15.55 - 16.00; Kerb Trading 16.35 - 16.45.
