In February, the trading volume on the EEX Spot Market for Natural Gas amounted to 1,704,603 MWh (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) compared to 1,097,808 MWh in February 2010. The volume included 358,107 MWh traded in the Within-Day Gas product. The Spot Market price for the day-ahead delivery of Natural Gas ranged between EUR 21.05 per MWh and EUR 23.39 per MWh.
The volumes on the Derivatives Market for Natural Gas (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) amounted to 2,366,377 MWh (February 2010: 1,586,210 MWh). On 28 February2011, the open interest was 20,138,315 MWh. On 28 February 2011 Natural Gas prices for delivery in 2012 were fixed at EUR 25.39 per MWh (GASPOOL) and EUR25.52 per MWh (NCG), respectively. In January, EEX launched the European Gas Index(EGIX). The last monthly average value for EGIX Germany, which constitutes the reference price for the delivery month March 2011, was fixed with 21.73 Euro/MWh on 25 February 2011.
On the EEX Spot Market for CO2 Emission Allowances (EUA) a total of 1,256,821 EUA was traded in February. The volume included 56,821 EUA traded on the secondary spot market (February 2010: 795,499 EUA) and 1,200,000 EUA from the primary market auction. During the month, the Carbix (Carbon Index) ranged between EUR14.12 per EUA and EUR 15.15 per EUA.
The total volume on the EEX Derivatives Market for CO2 Emission Allowances amounted to 11,642,000 EUA. The volume included 9,362,000 EUA traded on the secondary derivatives market (January 2010: 2,717,000 EUA) and 2,280,000 EUA from the primary market auction. The 2011 Mid Dec future contract settled at EUR15.52 per EUA on 28 February 2011, and the 2012 future contract at EUR 16.11 per EUA.
On the CO2 Derivatives Market for Certified Emission Reductions a volume of 30,000 CER was traded (February 2010: 5,000 CER). On 28 February 2011, the 2011 Mid Dec future contract was traded at EUR 11.83 per CER and the 2012 future contract at EUR 11.62 per CER.
On the EEX Market for Coal Futures 105,000 tonnes were traded in February 2011. (February 2010: 30,000 tonnes).In February, Priogen Holding B.V., Amsterdam, became a new trading member on the Derivatives Market of EEX.
