The British Council celebrated outstanding Egyptian graduates of high education from the United Kingdom and the announcement of recipients of the study UK Alumni 2019-20. The event was attended by Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity; Elizabeth White, Country Director of the British Council in Egypt; Sir Geoffrey Adams, British ambassador to Egypt; and a number of high-profile professionals.
The prestigious international award, now in its sixth year, celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni in over 100 countries all over the world. Following in-depth interviews with a judging panel, recipients were selected for the three award categories: Professional Achievement, Entrepreneurial, and Social Impact.
The Entrepreneurial Award was presented to Mohamed Farid Saleh, EGX Chairman and graduate of the University of York, also a Chevening scholar. In 2012, Mohamed Farid founded Dcode EFC, a leading economic and financial forecasting and advisory firm in Egypt, which went on to grow successfully despite being established during a time of economic uncertainty followed by his chairing The Egyptian Exchange from August 2017 till present. Since his chairmanship to EGX Board of Directors, Mohamed Farid Saleh succeeded in adding new financial instruments and products to the Egyptian market providing a more attractive market to the international and local investor.
Elizabeth White, Country Director at the British Council in Egypt, said: “The remarkable individuals we celebrated today have all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world around them. This year’s awards ceremony is testimony not only to the diversity of UK alumni and their endeavors, but also to the transformative impact of a UK education.”
The Study UK Alumni Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions and countries. The Alumni Awards celebrate and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education and raises the profile and reputation of UK alumni, their former universities, and the whole of UK education.
