Overview
The first nine months of 2008 was characterized by a 51% decline in the volume and a 7% decline in value of shares traded when compared with the corresponding period in 2007. With the exception of the Odd-lot and Put-through markets the other three markets suffered declines in both volume and value for the period. Take-over transactions continued to have a significant impact on trading activity as 73% of the volume and 80% of the value traded were associated with such transactions. This is compared with an 83% in volume and a 75% value in 2007.
