As the market is aware, ASX is developing international alliances to ensure the integration of ASX into the global marketplace. The two-way link with the Singapore Exchange commenced in December 2001 and a one-way link to access the US markets of New York, NASDAQ and AMEX has been in place since March 2001. The philosophy underpinning ASX World Link has always been to achieve multilateral links with a number of stock exchanges with the aim of building liquidity and depth for our listed companies and to ensure that the Australian market remains strong and globally relevant.
Beyond the current links, ASX has had discussions with a number of exchanges in a number of regions including Asia, Europe and the USA. While progress in some instances is encouraging, ASX has not yet entered into a formal agreement with any one exchange. If such an agreement is entered into an announcement will be made to the market at that time.
