The IFRS Foundation Trustees, the oversight body of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), today announced that the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board approved the appointment of Antonio Zoido as a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation. His initial term begins immediately and will expire on 31 December 2013. The term is renewable once.
Mr Zoido is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME), the operator of all stock markets and financial systems in Spain. He has been involved in banking and securities markets activities for most of his career, having previously served as Chairman of the World Federation of Exchanges, the Federation of European Stock Exchanges and the European Capital Market Institute.
Mr Zoido was previously a member of the International Accounting Standards Committee, the predecessor body to the IASB.
Commenting on the appointment, Sir Bryan Nicholson, chair of the Trustees’ Nominating Committee, which managed the nomination process, said: “Antonio’s record speaks for itself. He is a leading figure in the world of regulated exchanges and will be a tremendous asset as a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation”.
Biography
Antonio J Zoido is Chairman of the company Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) and Chairman of the Madrid Stock Exchange.
He has been also Chairman (2001/2003) of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), Chairman (1996/1998) of the Federation of European of Stock Exchanges (FESE), Chairman of SCL (1995/2005), Chairman of the European Capital Market Institute (ECMI), Chairman (1990/2006) of Santander Central Hispano Bolsa, and member of the Board of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC).
He is member of the board of significant companies, including Clearstream International and OMEL (the new electricity market in Spain).
He has a Law Degree from the Madrid University and completed studies in other European and US institutions.
